Carnival Time

The mere mention of the word carnival gets my kids all wide-eyed and excited, like a dog at his meal! We have to be careful dropping the word sometimes unless we are absolutely sure we are going. Carnivals and festivals are their thing and I can't blame them.

The L.A. County Fair is back and we took the kids there the other day. Alex and Zach have been talking about which rides they think they are big enough to try out. Alex has a pretty good gauge on what she can and can't do yet. Zach tends to be on the cautious side, changing his mind last minute on some rides. He did seem satisfied just by watching the huge, brightly lit ferris wheel, hearing the screams from a roller coaster zipping by, or cheering on his sister as we watched. We all had our first taste of funnel cake, Zach liked it the most (not surprisingly). We saw a well-done dinosaur exhibit that had huge dinosaur displays complete with motion and roaring sounds. It intimidated the kids. The fair also had miniature trains on display and that's always fun to watch, and a petting zoo (which we skipped this time around). The kids had a great time.

Alexandra petted her chosen horse like it was real.

I don't think Zach was having quite as great of a time on this dragon roller coaster as the other kids in the photo. But he did say he liked it when it was over. Alex did this ride again, Zach stayed behind to watch. (You may click on the photo to enlarge.)
