After months of training, David finally did the 55 mile ride of the Tour de Palm Springs last Valentine's Day. On our drive to Palm Springs approaching the town, we saw windmills everywhere. Zach noticed that we were in a desert and thought out loud that he'll pick up rocks for his collection. Upon entering Palm Springs, the landscape changed to streets lined with palm trees, lush landscaping and people. It was entirely different from the desert we were in just a few minutes ago. Zach ecstatically blurted out so many superlatives on how much he loved Palm Springs. He must have thought it was just rocks and dirt and windmills. We stayed there for the weekend.
I had dreams of taking pictures of David at the finish line, with the three of us cheering him on as he finished the tour. I didn't realize how difficult that would be while watching the kids and then getting sick during that weekend. So instead, I have photos of the kids busy in the hotel room ...
When David came back after his ride, Alex asked "Did you win the race?"
David did well, and we are proud!
