First Day of School 2010

Friday, August 13, 2010

Summer vacation went by too fast, it was already back to school for us this week.  Zach is now in Kindergarten, and Alex is in first grade and gets to spend a full day in school.  Both kids were excited, and so was I.

I knew Zach wouldn't be nervous about Kindergarten. My only worry was that he might think out loud too often and interrupt the class.  He had this skeptical look on his face (from the picture below) as they were about to go in the classroom.

Alex, I knew, would be nervous about the many new things.  But I've always admired her courage and optimism.

I couldn't wait to hear what they had to say about school when they came home.

Zach was home first and said, "It was a fun day today!"  I was relieved.  He also got a treat from the treasure chest for behaving well.  I was even more relieved.  I can't believe he got to the much coveted treasure chest on his first day. He has been pining for it since he heard of it last year from Alex.

Alex got so tired from her first long day in school that she had to take a nap. She doesn't usually take naps anymore.  School went fine and she is happy with her new teacher.

Both kids surprisingly missed each other so much that when Alex came home in the afternoon they gave each other a long tackle-hug which was so sweet, and which then got too rough until one had to cry and the other had to go on timeout.

We're off to a good start of the school year!
